On this day 200 years ago, the Peruvian nation reached its independence from the Spanish monarchy, thus creating the sovereign history of the Independence of Peru.
On July 28, 1821, Argentine General José de San Martín proclaimed the country's independence. Thus was born a new Peru governed by authorities democratically elected by its people.
Many are the celebrations and activities that are happening throughout this year to commemorate the anniversary. One of the initiatives has been the issuance by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru of a commemorative silver coin alluding to the Proclamation of Independence. The piece is composed of one ounce of 925 silver of purity or fineness and a Proof minting quality.
On the reverse of the coin, in the center, the Liberator José de San Martín is seen in the foreground with his arm raised along with other main characters and a close-up of the crowd gathered for the ceremony in the Plaza Mayor of Lima. In the upper part the text 1821 - BICENTENARIO - 2021 is read and in the lower part of the coin, the phrase PROCLAMATION OF INDEPENDENCE is shown.
The obverse of the coin features the National Shield, the text BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERÚ, the year of minting 2021 and the denomination in letters UN SOL.
