'Umka' (Polar bear in Chucoto language) is a Soviet cartoon character created by directors Vladimir Pekar and Vladimir Popov at Soyuzmultfilm studios in 1969. The story of this little polar bear who shares adventures with an Eskimo boy, was created by Yury Yakovlev, being very popular with many generations of viewers.
This new coin dedicated to Umka belongs to a series called "Russian (Soviet) Animation" that the Bank of Russia has been issuing since 2017. They are 25-ruble cupro-nickel coins that can be purchased in a normal or colored version. There is also a Proof version in silver, with a face of 3 rubles with the same design. The information and images that I offer correspond to those issued in base metal (cupronickel) on June 30.
The reverse features a relief image of the main characters from the animated film 'Umka' on a background of ice and a sky full of stars; at the top is the inscription 'УМКА' (UMKA).
The obverse, common to all coins, shows a relief image of the coat of arms of the Russian Federation, the inscription in a semicircle “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (Russian Federation). Below the inscriptions in three lines: “БАНК РОССИИ” (Bank of Russia), the value of the coin “25 РУБЛЕЙ” (25 RUBLES), the year “2021” and the mint mark shown on the right.
