The last currency of the year issued by the Austrian Mint is the so-called "New Year's Currency". This year the currency that welcomes 2020 will be the seventh with this theme. With this and, with all previously issued, you want to wish a happy year, full of best wishes for collectors and those who receive it as a gift, something that gradually becomes a beautiful tradition. Although the official issuance date for this 5 euro coin is next December 4, its date of wedge already corresponds to 2020.

Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the opening of Vienna's legendary Musikverein concert hall in 1870, the Austrian 2020 New Year coin features the Greek god Apollo. The image of the god of music and dance is taken from a frieze, designed by August Eisenmenger (1830-1907), which is located on the ceiling of the Golden Hall of Musikverein, the spiritual home of classical music in the Austrian capital. The New Year in Austria is always linked to music.

Considered one of the best concert halls in the world, the Musikverein was designed by Danish architect Theophil Hansen following the neoclassical style of an ancient Greek temple. The building was inaugurated on January 6, 1870, surprising its audience of the first night that was captivated by the combination of its architectural and acoustic beauty. However, the legendary sound of the Golden Hall is not a product of scientific precision but a chance coincidence, since Hansen had to rely on his intuition rather than studies of architectural acoustics. Fortunately, the wonderful architecture was accompanied by a sublime sound.

In the Eisenmenger frieze, the young Apollo floats on the public, undoubtedly animated by all the beauty he has witnessed during the last century and a half. The motif of the coin shows it, lyre in hand, a toga covering its lower part of the body. In the background, you can see the famous Golden Hall organ.

The obverse of the nine-sided coin shows the coats of arms of the nine federal provinces of Austria, their face value "5 euros" and the name of the issuing country "Republic of Austria".

The coin with 5 euros facial, like all those issued by Austria at this value, can be purchased in two versions, copper at face value and silver, presented in a portfolio, at a price of around € 19 in the Austrian mint online store.
