To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Norwegian author Anne Cath Vestly's birth, the Bank of Norway has decided to issue a commemorative 20-crown coin for circulation. This is the first time that a woman has been honored for her achievements with a commemorative coin in Norway.

The work of Anne Cath Vestly, not only as an author, but as an independent woman, pioneered the treatment of universal and relevant issues with new forms. Vestly wrote about new ways of family life and gender role patterns, and successfully combined animated stories with deeper meaning. She made an outstanding contribution to promoting children's love of reading.

The coin was designed by illustrator and cartoonist Siri Dokken. The motif shows Anne Cath Vestly looking directly at the coin bearer, creating an immediate impact, in turn she is also observed by a child. The "city line" at the bottom is a reference to urban villages, adding an additional dimension to the theme. The inscriptions refer to the author and the hundred years since her birth, the face value, 20 Kroner, also appears.

The obverse of the coin shows King Harald V of Norway in a profile portrait looking to the right. Around the portrait: HARALD V ∙ KING OF NORWAY. To the left of the portrait, at neck height, is the signature of Ingrid Austilid Rise, recorder of the Norwegian mint. The year of issue "2020" and the mint mark appear at the bottom.
