The Royal Canadian Mint, The Royal Candian Mint, announces the release of a circulating bimetal-type coin, with a $ 2 face, to commemorate the centenary of the birth of artist Bill Reid, considered the most important figure of Haida art, named after an indigenous people on the Canadian west coast, in the province of British Columbia. The peculiarity of this coin is that it is available in two versions: a "normal" and a colored one.

On the reverse, Xhuwaji, the Grizzly Haida Bear, by renowned artist Bill Reid, is featured in the inner core and extending into the outer ring. At the top of the outer ring, two images of a maple leaf appear within a pattern of vertical lines. A banner at the bottom of the outer ring bears the inscriptions "BILL" and "REID" in honor of the centenary of the artist Haida's birth, while the year of issue "2020" falls between two security marks consisting of a sheet maple tree inside another maple leaf.

Of the 3 million coins of which the issue consists, 2 million are colored. The coins have been in circulation throughout Canada since July 28.

The colored $ 2 coin features the same design, enhanced with the red, white, and black colors present in the original drawing created by artist Bill Reid.

Reid started out making jewelry. He then went on to make larger sculptures in bronze, red cedar, and Nootka cypress or yellow cedar, generally depicting figures, animals, and scenes from Haida mythology, seeking to express the visual traditions of his ancestors in contemporary ways.

The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, designed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt in 2003.
