The Bank of Malta announces the issuance of the first 2-euro coin commemorating this 2020 for next Monday, July 27. Within the series "Prehistoric Temples of Malta", started in 2016, this year's is dedicated to the "Temples of Skorba". There will be three presentations in which we can acquire the coin, each one will be different from the others, if we take into account the different mint brands that they will present.

The coin depicts the prehistoric temple of Skorba, located near the village of Zebbiegh, in north-western Malta. The complex consists of two adjacent temples built on much older ruins discovered outside the temple compound. Skorba lacks the monumentality of other temples on the Maltese islands.
However, the site is of utmost importance as it has allowed archaeologists to fix the prehistoric cultural sequence of Malta and confirms that it was first inhabited around 5,000 BCE. The inscription "SKORBA TEMPLES 3600-2500 BC" appears at the top of the design. At the bottom you can read the name of the issuing State, "MALTA", and the year of issue, "2020".

Coins in rolls or cartridges

The 150,000 coins distributed in rolls do not have any mint marks.

Coincard coin

The 20,000 coins presented in coincards come with the mintmarks of the Monnaie de Paris, which you can see on both sides of the year 2020.

Currency in euroset 2020

The 10,000 eurosets of 2020 with the eight regular circulation coins and the commemorative 2-euro coin, have, in the latter, a different mint mark, an F marked in the star that you see indicated in the image. This product is issued the same day as the previous ones.

Remind you that the second commemorative 2 euro coin to be issued by Malta this year, on a date to be determined, will have as its theme "Children and Solidarity - Games".
