Fibula a fost descoperită în noiembrie 1975, de Emil Moscalu, în timpul cercetării unei movile funerare din prima epocă a fierului de la Ostrovul Mare (comuna Gogoșu, județul Mehedinți), autorul descoperirii datând-o în secolul 7 ante Chr. Acest tip de fibulă este cel mai frecvent descoperită în zona nord-vest balcanică şi în arealul de răspândire al culturii Basarabi. Piesa aparține patrimoniului Muzeului Olteniei.
