Câteva monede românești într-o licitație Heritage Auction IV b - 02.01.2024

 1. Carol I gold 20 Lei 1870-C AU58 NGC, Bucharest mint

Carol I gold 20 Lei 1870-C AU58 NGC, Bucharest mint, KM7, Fr-2. Mintage: 5,000. A fleeting single-year issue whose sharp features are only trivially impacted by handling. Light and consistent friction to the surfaces limits the assigned grade from higher certification, while strong remnants of original golden luster confirm the near-mint grade designation.

4. Sigismund Bathori Taler 1593/2 XF45 NGC, Nagybanya mint

Sigismund Bathori Taler 1593/2 XF45 NGC, Nagybanya mint, Dav-8804, Resch-138. An ever-iconic Transylvanian taler which comes highly contested among collectors, likely owing to its handsome and lifelike portrayal of Sigismund together with its intricate reverse arms. While examples of the 1593 date become available with some regularity, the 1593/2 overdate is considerably scarcer, with scant auction appearances (the current piece is struck from the same dies as Noble Auction 103, August 2013, Lot 2457).

Metal: Silver

5. Gabriel Bethlen Taler 1621-KB MS61 NGC, Kremnitz mint

Gabriel Bethlen Taler 1621-KB MS61 NGC, Kremnitz mint, KM134, Dav-4710, Resch-81. An elusive and popular issue, especially so in Mint State preservation, that is often accompanied by surface and planchet imperfections, yet these are essentially absent from the piece in question. Unusually enthralling and original, decorated in a pleasing array of cobalt and emerald toned legends, most notable to the reverse. Highly desirable so fine.

Metal: Silver Diameter: 44mm Weight: 28.6g

4. Sigismund Bathory Taler 1590 MS64 NGC, Nagybanya mint

Sigismund Bathory Taler 1590 MS64 NGC, Nagybanya mint, Dav-8802, Resch-54. A positively frosty example revealing a sheen of argent luster over carefully preserved surfaces, as well as a dramatic die crack that traverses the upper obverse. As a type, very scarce in this near-gem preservation, and among the very best that we have seen of this popular issue. From the Cape Coral Collection of European Crowns

Metal: Silver Diameter: 40mm

Sursa: https://coins.ha.com/itm/transylvania/transylvania-sigismund-bathory-taler-1590-ms64-ngc-/a/3089-30289.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515

5. Sigismund Bathory Taler 1592/1 MS61 NGC, Nagybanya mint

Sigismund Bathory Taler 1592/1 MS61 NGC, Nagybanya mint, Dav-8802 var. (overdate unlisted), Resch-111 var. (same). Apparently a quite rare, and seemingly unpublished overdate for the issue, with a Roman numeral 1 clearly visible below the final 2 in the date and another beneath the rosette following. Superbly preserved and intricately executed throughout for the grade, a review of recent auction records suggests only one other representative becoming available in recent decades, a raw ex. mount piece, with the standard 1592 date altogether missing from Wormser's 1914 study "Coins and Medals of Transylvania in New York Collections" published in the American Journal of Numismatics. Mislabeled on the holder Dav-8803. From the Cape Coral Collection of European Crowns

George II Rakoczi Taler 1658-NB MS62 NGC, Nagybanya mint, KM-B287, Dav-4752. Appealing for the type and preserving fully uncirculated details expressed to satisfactory clarity in Rakoczi's armor, beard, and headwear. A balanced steel tone contributes a sense of age and originality to this Mint State selection. From the Cape Coral Collection of European Crowns

Metal: Silver Diameter: 44mm

7. Sigismund Bathory Taler 1595

Sigismund Bathory Taler 1595 AU55 NGC, Dav-8804, Resch-198. Obv. Armored half-length portrait of Sigismund right, holding scepter. Rev. Crowned arms with supporters and date in legend. A laudable example of this sought-after type, which finds itself contested whenever encountered in better states of preservation. Steel-toned and well-defined with an attractive lightening atop the higher points. Sigismund (1572-1613) Prince of Transylvania and of the Holy Roman Empire, was an eager fighter of the Turks but not everyone in noble Transylvania wished to pursue this route. He won and, in the year this coin was struck, engaged in a wholesale revenge against those who opposed him, having them all executed.

8. Gabriel Bethlen Taler 1621-KB

Gabriel Bethlen Taler 1621-KB MS63 NGC, Kremnitz mint, KM134, Dav-4710. An exemplary offering preserving gleaming luster over multi-faceted surfaces carrying underlying currents of fuchsia amidst a beautiful layering of silty tone. Quite exceptional for the type, tied for the finest certified by NGC, and easily the best that this cataloger has seen. Ex. 9. Gabriel Bethlen Taler 1621-KB

Gabriel Bethlen Taler 1621-KB AU Details (Mount Removed) NGC, Kremnitz mint, KM134, Dav-4710, Resch-81. A lovely example displaying sharp detailing amidst still-lustrous fields revealing no larger instances of handling. Through previously mounted this is not readily apparent in the current holder.

10. Sigismund Bathory gold Ducat 1582 MS61 NGC, Nagyszeben (Hermannstadt/Sibiu) mint

Sigismund Bathory gold Ducat 1582 MS61 NGC, Nagyszeben (Hermannstadt/Sibiu) mint, Fr-63. An appealing Madonna type, fully lustrous and quite lacking in the surface marks one might associate with the assigned grade, with only touches of strike weaknesses in areas, as are to be expected for this crude hammered issue.

Metal: Gold
