One of the novelties that the Vatican has prepared for us for next June 25 corresponds to the first rectangular-shaped coin, and also colored, that they issue. This numismatic collector's item celebrates the "450th Anniversary of Caravaggio's birth", the same motif as the commemorative 2 euro coin issued on the same date.

The artist Orietta Rossi has created a small work of art on this rectangular-shaped silver coin with a face of 25 euros, reproducing on the coin one of Caravaggio's masterpieces: The Holy Burial, painted by the artist between 1602 and 1604 for the church of Santa Maria in Vallicella, which is currently exhibited in one of the rooms of the Pinacoteca of the Vatican Museums.

The painting of The Holy Burial is made in oil on canvas, showing in a masterful way the contrast between light and shadow, which deepens and gives a dramatic aspect to the death of Christ, whose inanimate body lets glimpse the light of the coming resurrection.

On the other side of the coin is the coat of arms of Pope Francis.
