The Bank of Hungary (MBN) has issued two coins with the same design dedicated to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games taking place this year. The coins, designed by the artist Zoltán Endrődy, have two facets, 2,000 and 10,000 florins, minted in cupro-nickel in BU quality and 925 silver in Proof quality respectively.

The Games of the XXXII Olympiad and the XVI Paralympic Games will be held in Tokyo in the summer of 2021. Tokyo will host this world sporting event for the second time. New sports will be included in the program: in addition to softball, surfing, skateboarding, climbing wall and karate are added to the Olympic events, while badminton and taekwondo to the Paralympic events that replace yacht racing and football played by teams of seven visually impaired players. 11,000 athletes will participate in 339 events in 33 sports at the 2021 Olympic Games. According to expectations, between 150 and 160 members of the Hungarian Olympic team will represent Hungary. The best in 22 sports will compete in 540 events at the Paralympic Games. Hungarian Paralympic athletes have the opportunity to qualify in 13 sports.

It is the first time in the history of the world's major sporting events that the Olympic and Paralympic Games have been postponed due to the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, and this postponement has not led to a name change.


As a central motif on the obverse, an abstract representation of kayaking, swimming and fencing is shown. These sports can bring medals among Hungarian athletes. The athletes, represented in shapes divided into geometric planes (canoeist, swimmer and fencer in a wheelchair) represent the association and integration of the two Hungarian teams. The inscription 'MAGYAROSZÁG' (Hungary) is shown around the representation of the athletes with the two end points connected by a circular line running along the edge. The denominations '10 000 ′ and '2000 FORINT', the year of issue '2021', the mintmark 'BP', which contains security features in the form of micro letters and the trademark of Zoltán Endrődy, the designer of the coin , shown to the left of the wheelchair shooter.


On the reverse side are the logos of the Hungarian Olympic Team, which represents cohesion, and the Hungarian Paralympic Team, which enhances equality, framed by the letters "MAGYAR OLIMPIAI ÉS PARALIMPIAI CSAPAT" (Hungarian Olympic and Paralympic Team). Next to the logos, on the left and right, is placed the official name of the games with the five rings and the inscription "TOKYO 2020" divided into two parts.
