Today, July 7, 2025 , the Bank of Russia issued a commemorative silver coin with a face value of 3 rubles to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of New Urengoy. This coin is part of the Cities series.
Founded in 1975 after the discovery of the gigantic Urengoy gas field, Novy Urengoy has established itself as the largest industrial center in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region and is known as the "gas capital" of Russia. The city accounts for nearly 60% of the country's natural gas production and plays a strategic role in the country's energy economy.
The reverse of the coin features a commemorative stele against a background depicting drilling operations in front of a platform, with a matte finish achieved using laser treatment. The embossed inscription "50 LET" ( 50 Years ) appears in the upper left corner, while a laser-etched national motif runs around the circumference of the coin.
The obverse depicts a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation, above it along the edge the semicircular inscription 'РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ' (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) framed with paired diamonds on both sides, below the coat of arms are the chemical symbol and the metal fineness on the left and the fine metal content and mint mark on the right, in the lower center in three lines are the inscription 'БАНК РОССИИ' (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin '3 RUBLYA' (3 RUBLES) and the year of issue '2025' (2025).
