200 Euro 2021 Gold Coin - The Archangels: Raphael

The Zecca dello Stato Vaticano dedicates the 200-euro gold coin to the Archangel Raphael this year, concluding the triennial cycle dedicated to the archangels.

The artist Gabriella Titotto has represented Rafael with the young Tobías, his faithful little dog and a fish. In the upper right area the Latin script is shown: “Deus sanat” (God heals). The name Raphael in ancient Hebrew means, in effect, "God heals": Raphael is the angel of health; He is the patron of boyfriends and husbands, pharmacists, eye doctors and pedestrians. In religious iconography it is often depicted alongside a fish and a container of medicines. Raphael appears for the first time in the book of Tobias in the Old Testament of the Catholic Bible under the name of Azariah (the one who helps). The Archangel accompanies the young Tobías, sent by the blind father, to complete a long journey, during which, on Raphael's advice, the young man defeats a huge fish from which he extracts the gall, the heart and the liver; he meets and marries Sara, who is freed from the devil thanks to the entrails of the fish. On returning home, Tobías smears gall on the father's eyes, who regains his sight. Only at the end of the book will Rafael reveal his angelic nature.

5 euro silver coin - 50th anniversary of the association of Saint Peter and Saint Paul

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Association of Saints Peter and Paul, created in 1971 by the will of Paul VI, in order to continue the inheritance of ideals of the Palatine Guard of Honor of His Holiness. The members in service are Roman Catholics who wish to “give a particular witness of Christian life, apostolate and fidelity to the Apostolic See”, through cultural activities, works of Christian charity and the service they dedicate, mainly in the Basilica. of Saint Peter in the Vatican.

The 5-euro silver coin with gold reliefs celebrating the anniversary, created by artist Patrizio Daniele, represents Saints Peter and Paul. Saint Paul holds in his left hand a sword: “the sword of the Spirit… that is, the Word of God”; Saint Peter carries two keys in his left hand, which in Christian symbols represent the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.

10 Euro Silver Coin - Unesco 75th Anniversary

UNESCO was founded at the end of the Second World War, in 1945, to guarantee a lasting peace; in fact, its acronym means: United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

The artist Daniela Fusco has reproduced on the coin a dove with an olive branch in its beak (symbol of peace) and a ribbon on which the three words are written, symbol of the commitment against all kinds of war and discrimination: education - science - culture. On the right is represented the Basilica of Saint Peter, as a symbol of Christianity. The Vatican City, in its entirety, was declared a World Heritage Site in 1984.

Centenary of the founding of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart

The Vatican also wants to celebrate the Centenary of the Foundation of the University of the Sacred Heart, with the extraordinary issue of a silver coin with gold reliefs of 10 euros.

The University coat of arms, faithfully reproduced by the artist Gabriella Titotto, represents the identity of the Athenaeum: at the top the Sacred Heart of Jesus; in the center the Alma Mater (expression that indicates the University in which the graduations are made); to the sides two students; finally, the Latin phrase: “Universitas Catholica Sacri Cordis Jesu Mediolani”. Since its founding, it has become the largest Athenaeum in Europe, always remaining true to its Catholic identity.
