The Bank of Ukraine issued on May 25 a coin with facial of 5 and hryven minted in an alloy of alpaca to commemorate the 125 years of the establishment of the electric tram service in the city of Kiev.

In June 1892, electric trams began to travel around Kiev. The tram was 1.5 km long at the beginning. The tram service developed rapidly in the city reaching very soon the 50 km of electrified tracks. Internationally they were the first electric trams of the old Russian Empire, and the third in Europe after those of Berlin and Paris.

The back of the coin shows an old tram with passengers on the background of a cityscape of Kiev.

The obverse shows the tracks of a tram on a stone pavement and the legends КИЇВ (Kiev) 1892 / Paris 1881 / Berlin 1881 / London 1901 (European cities and the years in which electric trams started circulating).
