Next Monday, December 4, the National Mint and Stamp Factory – Real Casa de la Moneda will issue a collection of square coins made up of eight pieces that pay tribute to Pablo Ruiz Picasso, the brilliant artist whose 50th anniversary his death.

Considered one of the great names of Spanish painting of the 20th century. The creator of "Cubism" had a great influence on other artists of his time. Painter, sculptor, engraver and writer, his works are exhibited in the most important museums in the world. It is estimated that Picasso was the author of some 13,500 paintings and designs, 100,000 prints or engravings, 34,000 illustrations for books and 300 sculptures or ceramics.

There are eight works by Picasso painted between 1901 and 1953 that have been reproduced on as many coins.

On the back of the first piece, the work titled "The Wait (Margot)" is reproduced, made by Pablo Picasso in 1901, which is kept in the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. To the right of the image, the legend LA ESPERA (MARGOT).
 

On the back of the second piece, the work titled "Head of a Woman Crying with a Handkerchief (III)" is reproduced, made by Pablo Picasso in 1937, which is preserved in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Madrid. To the right of the image, the legend HEAD OF CRYING WOMAN WITH SCARF III.
 

On the reverse of the third piece, the work titled "Jacqueline seated" is reproduced, made by Pablo Picasso in 1954, which is preserved in the Picasso Museum Málaga. To the right of the image, the legend JACQUELINE SITTING.
 

On the back of the fourth piece the work titled "Woman in Blue" is reproduced, made by Pablo Picasso in 1901, which is kept in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Madrid. To the right of the image, the legend WOMAN IN BLUE.
 

On the reverse of the fifth piece, the work titled "Harlequin" is reproduced, made by Pablo Picasso in 1917, which is kept in the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. To the right of the image, the legend HARLEQUIN.
 

On the reverse of the sixth piece, the work titled "Bullfight" is reproduced, made by Pablo Picasso in 1934, which is preserved in the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, in Madrid. Below the image, the legend CORRIDA DE TOROS.
 

On the obverse (common to all six pieces) a detail of the Portrait of Pablo Picasso in a white jersey in his studio Le Fournas, Vallauris, taken by the photographer Edward Quinn in 1953, is reproduced. At the top of the piece, the year of coinage 2023 and the legend SPAIN; to its left, the face value 10 EURO; To the right, the Ceca mark and the Picasso signature.

On the back of the first piece, the work titled "Harlequin with a Mirror" is reproduced, made by Pablo Picasso in 1923, which is preserved in the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, in Madrid. To its right, the legend SPAIN and the year of minting 2023. Below the image is the legend HARLEQUIN WITH MIRROR. 
 

On the reverse of the second piece, the work titled "Woman with Raised Arms" is reproduced, made by Pablo Picasso in 1936, which is kept in the Picasso Museum Málaga. At the top of the piece, horizontally and in capital letters, the legend SPAIN and the year of minting 2023. At the bottom, the legend WOMAN WITH ARMS RAISED.
 

On the obverse (common to both pieces) a photographic portrait of Pablo Picasso in front of his work "The Amateur", made in 1912, is reproduced. On the right side of the piece, Picasso's signature; above, in two lines and in capital letters, the face value 50 EURO; Below, the Mint mark.
