During this month of November, Banco de México has issued two new bills with denominations of 100 pesos (4.19 euros) and 1000 pesos (41.89 euros) with which the renewal of paper money in Mexico continues. The new banknotes present improvements in their security, functionality and durability characteristics, as well as graphic motifs that represent the historical identity and natural heritage of Mexico.

Its design represents thematic motifs that allude to one of its
historical processes, that of the Colony, and to the temperate forest ecosystem with its representative fauna and flora, in a site recognized on the “World Heritage” list of the Organization of the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), as a sample of the natural wealth that is distributed throughout the territory of Mexico.

The new 100 peso bill is made with the latest generation materials,
which will allow it to extend its useful life in circulation. The predominant color of the designation is red and the substrate on which it is printed is polymer. The note measures 132 mm long x 65 mm high and has a vertical format.

The obverse represents the historical process of the Colony with Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, the most important poet and writer of New Spain literature.

The effigy of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz is accompanied by a vignette that represents a fragment of the main courtyard of the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, located in the Historic Center of Mexico City, an emblematic site of educational work during the New Spain. 
 
 

The reverse illustrates the temperate forest ecosystem in the
Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, a natural heritage of humanity, located in the State of Mexico and Michoacán. At the center of the bill, as the main motif, is the image of two monarch butterflies on a milkweed flower and as a background, the forest of pines, oaks and oyameles; In the lower right area of ​​the representation is the card "Ecosystem of temperate forests, Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in the states of Mexico and Michoacán de Ocampo, natural heritage of humanity.", below this is the secondary window shaped like a butterfly that changes from gold to green and right, the text "One hundred pesos" with vertical orientation.

They frame the representation, the denomination with a number in horizontal and vertical positions in the upper right and lower left corners, respectively, the transparent window in the upper left area, and below this, the text “BANCO DE MÉXICO”.

1.000 peso bill

Its design represents thematic motifs that allude to one of its historical processes, that of the Revolution, and the ecosystem of humid forests with its representative fauna and flora, through a site recognized on the list of "World Heritage" of the Organization of the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), as a sample of the natural wealth that is distributed throughout the Mexican territory.

This banknote is made with the latest generation materials, which will allow it to extend its useful life in circulation. The predominant color is gray and the substrate on which it is printed is cotton. The note measures 153 mm long x 65 mm high.
 


The obverse represents the historical process of the Revolution in Mexico with President Francisco I. Madero, Hermila Galindo and Carmen Serdán, promoters of the revolutionary ideals of democracy, equality and justice, accompanied by an image of a locomotive, the main means of transportation of the revolutionaries.
 

The reverse represents the ecosystem of humid forests with the jaguar and the ceiba and sapote trees, in the Ancient Mayan City and protected tropical forests of Calakmul in Campeche, recognized by UNESCO as natural and cultural heritage of humanity.

These banknotes belong to a new family called "G" that has 6 denominations: 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 pesos, the latter will only be issued if it is considered that said banknote is required to meet the country's needs. In the case of the 20 peso denomination, it will gradually cease to circulate as a banknote and will be replaced by currency.

The next stage of this issuance program is scheduled for 2021, when the one that completes the series, the 50 peso one, will be put into circulation.
