I. Gabriel Bethlen gold Ducat 1621-NB AU58 NGC, Nagybánya mint, KM140, Fr-367, Resch-75. Obv. Bareheaded, draped, and mantled bust right, wearing high collar. Rev. The Madonna seated facing on crescent, holding scepter and Holy Infant. A pleasingly struck and lightly toned example of this attractive type, featuring just a hint of light wear on the highest points, but otherwise problem-free surfaces. Some bands of underlying luster are evident, and add further elegance and charm to this near-mint example. Only one specimen has been graded finer by NGC, with PCGS having certified none of this date.

II. Gabriel Bethlen gold Ducat 1629/8-NB MS61 NGC, Nagybánya mint, KM191, Fr-366, Resch-498. Obv. Bareheaded, draped, and mantled bust right, wearing high collar. Rev. The Madonna seated facing within mandorla, holding scepter and Holy Infant who holds orb; garnished coat-of-arms below. An exceedingly lustrous and blazing example, featuring lustrous surfaces and a radiating brilliance. Some light hairlines and minor flan waviness are noted, but in no way detract from the stunning ocular experience which this highly pleasing piece imparts to the viewer. Seldom encountered in such a wondrous state of preservation, this specimen is currently tied for the finest certified by NGC, with none having been graded by PCGS.

III. Maria Theresa gold 2 Ducat 1778 H-S AU - Extensively Tooled, Karlsburg mint, KM650.

IV. Gabriel Bethlen Ar Groschen 1623-NB Fine, Nagybanya mint, KM163. Traditional Madonna and Child design.

V. Gabriel Bethlen gold Ducat 1626-NB MS62 NGC, Nagybánya mint, KM160, Fr-367, Resch-318. Truly exceptional, this rare specimen exhibits a phenomenal state of preservation, lustrous overall with light hazy tone. The devices have been fabulously rendered and retain their sharpness with little evidence of cabinet friction. The flan itself displays no flaws and remains straight while betraying no evidence of ghosting between the obverse and reverse. The aggregate result is a coin that demands the attention of enthusiastic specialists of this popular principality.

VI. Maria Theresa gold Ducat 1776 H-G AU55 PCGS, Karlsburg mint, KM610, Resch-36. Superbly struck with the end result being crisply defined motifs, light reflectivity surrounding, and gorgeous honey color that permeates the surfaces. Minimal handling and a touch of friction limit the grade, but overall, the allure of this coin remains bold.

VII. Sigismund Bathori 3 Groschen 1597 VF30 NGC, Resch-236.

VIII. Gabriel Bethlen silver Medal ND (1613-1629) About VF - Mounted with Bezel, Resch-70. The Prince facing right, reverse crowned arms. Very seldom encountered.

IX. Gabriel Bethlen Groschen 1625-NB Fine, Nagybanya mint, KM163, Resch-26,289. Struck from a damaged planchet.

X. Gabriel Bethlen Taler 1629-NB AU53 NGC, Nagybanya mint, KM204, Dav-4724. Lightly toned and well struck, this example is from the last year of Gabriel's reign and is the scarcer of the two years in which the type was produced. Highly pleasing.

XI. George Rakoczi Taler 1655-NB XF Details (Excessive Surface Hairlines) NGC, Nagybanya mint, KM286, Dav-4751. A decent example of the type, exhibiting some hairlines throughout.

XII. Karl VI gold Ducat 1712-IFK AU58 NGC, Hermannstadt mint, Johann Franz Kropf as mintmaster, KM551, Fr-517, Resch-2. Beautifully toned with sunset coloration in the fields, the eye-appeal of this rare one-year type featuring a standing portrait of Karl VI is immediately apparent in hand. Light circulation wear in concert with mild unevenness of strike has blunted some of the finer details, but the major design elements remain bold and the surfaces remarkably free of noteworthy abrasions or marks.

XIII. Maria Theresia gold Ducat 1751 MS61 NGC, Karlsburg mint, KM610, Resch-36. A superb strike has brought up sharp details out of bright fields with much reflectivity remaining despite some handling, limiting the grade and suppressing the luster somewhat.

XIV. Joseph II gold 2 Ducats 1779-E MS61 NGC, Karlsburg mint, KM1869 (under Austria). A very appealing piece despite minor handling and a few copper spots on the reverse. The devices are quite sharp and the portrait of Joseph is very well-executed.

XV. Johann II Sigismund (with Isabella as Regent 1556-1559) Ducat 1557 AU53 NGC, Nagybánya mint, Fr-264, Resch-31. A very rare issue of Johann II under the regency of his mother, well-struck overall on a slightly wavy flan with minimal striking weakness and some residual luster observable in protected areas.

XVI. Sigismund Bathory Taler 1592 AU58 NGC, Dav-8802, Resch-102. A wholly engaging specimen, featuring the armored bust of the Prince on the obverse and crowned and supported coat-of-arms on the reverse. A mostly old-cabinet tone appearance is highlighted by some additional colors of the rainbow around the devices. Sharply struck, with next to no visible wear. A truly exceptional and impressive piece.

XVII. Karl VI gold Ducat 1716 XF45 NGC, Karlsburg mint, KM556, Fr-520, Resch-14. A scarce type from this popular principality, struck with some weakness to the centers, but otherwise quite sharp. The circulation wear is even and there are few distracting marks in the fields or affecting the devices. Some residue is noted in the obverse field and amongst the legends.

XVIII. Gabriel Bethlen Taler 1621-KB XF45 NGC, Kremnitz mint, KM134, Dav-4710. An appealing representative of this eminently collected principality, this piece exhibits outstanding surfaces for the grade, evenly circulated with few noteworthy digs or abrasions. The central argent tone brightens to an olive-gold in the legends.

XIX. Maria Theresa gold 1/4 Ducat 1749 MS63 NGC, Karlsburg mint, KM618, Fr-547. Youthful portrait of the Empress. Superb luster and a first class strike. Scarce in all grades, rare at this level of preservation.
