One more year, the Monnaie de Paris sets its sights on creatures from the comic world, if in previous years they issued coins in which the protagonists were Asterix or Mickey Mousse, this year the protagonists are Les Schtroumpfs, in Spain known as The Smurfs . The series will be completed in two installments, the first one that has just been broadcast, and a second one in September.

Iconic little elves, the Smurfs make their first appearance on Johan and Pirlouit's album "La Flute à six Schtroumpfs" (The Flute of the Smurfs) created by the Belgian cartoonist Peyo in 1958. Since then, these blue, cheeky and white cap have lived adventures through numerous albums.

The Monnaie de Paris pays tribute in 2020 to the comic strip and Peyo's work, as well as the hundred iconic characters, all similar but different in character.
