Few animals have had a greater impact on humans than the horse. Its power, beauty and sensitivity make the horse one of the most beloved members of the animal kingdom, not least among the young riders, many of whom form a deep and lasting bond with their loyal steed. The traditional Easter 2020 coin that the Austrian Mint issues every year, celebrates this unique bond.

From being the subject of countless prehistoric cave paintings, to the main form of human transport for more than five millennia, the horse has played an unparalleled role in the development of society. The most emblematic of all European horse races is the Lipizzaner, which has become world famous for its connection to the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Originally from Slovenia, Lipizzaner has been breeding since 1920 in the Piber stud farm in the Austrian province of Styria, where about 40 ponies come to the world every year. A few minutes after birth, newborn foals can stand up and, although at first they are unstable, they soon gallop happily through the Alpine meadows.

The coin shows a foal in the foreground happily frolicking through a meadow while its mother watches closely. The bottom of the coin is decorated with an assortment of spring flowers.

The Obverse of the nine-sided coin shows the coats of arms of the nine federal provinces of Austria, their face value, 5 euros, in the center, and in the outline the name of the country.

This coin with a facial of 5 euros, like all that Austria issues at this value, can be purchased in two versions, copper at face value and silver, presented in the wallet you see below, at a price of 18, € 60 plus shipping, in the Austrian mint online store.
