Unquestionably the kings of basketball are the Americans, in fact this sport was born there in the year 1891. This year the United States Mint, US Mint, plans to issue curved coins, as if from a bowl in metals such as gold, silver or a cupronickel alloy, in different coinage qualities, but with the same design, dedicated to the Basketball Hall of Fame, a place of recognition for players, coaches and referees who have contributed in an outstanding way to enhance the sport of the basket.

On December 21, 1891, a young physical education instructor named James Naismith introduced the game of basketball to his class at Springfield College in Massachusetts. Three years later, the game was played in more than a dozen nations.

Founded in 1959 in the city where basketball was born, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is dedicated to representing what is known as "Naismith Values": teamwork, sportsmanship, physical fitness, leadership, integrity, respect and perseverance. To honor these values, the Basketball Hall of Fame recognizes and honors the achievements of its best players, coaches, umpires and collaborators.

An intense action during the game is portrayed on the obverse of the coin: the constant fight for possession of the ball and the skill necessary to beat the opponent and pass the ball through the ring. The design features three different figures reaching for the ball in unison, suggesting how the sport has brought together millions of people around the world through a simple, universal, and unifying athletic experience. Players' arms are lengthened to emphasize the physical and mental effort required to excel in the game. The border and net are presented as subtle background elements to complement the primary figures. The inscriptions, translated into Spanish, are "LIBERTAD", "EN DIOS CONFIAMOS" and "2020".

The design on the reverse shows a basketball about to go through the net, along with the inscriptions, translated into Spanish, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "DE MUCHOS, UNO" and "UN DOLLAR." (Other currencies have different facial).

These commemorative coins are issued in 2020 to recognize the 60th anniversary of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The coins will go on sale on April 9, whenever the special circumstances that we live allow it. In total there are up to 7 versions for the same design, even the possibility that later a colored version comes out.
