To understand a little more about the currency that I present to you, dedicated to the «Centenary of the first congress of the Crimean Tatars», we will learn something about the history of Crimea. The People's Republic of Crimea was a republic that existed from December 1917 to January 1918 in the Crimean peninsula, disputed territory between Russia and Ukraine. The People's Republic of Crimea was one of the many new states that emerged after the Russian Revolution of 1917 caused the collapse of the Russian Empire.
The coin of 5 grivnas issued by the Bank of Ukraine today, November 17, is dedicated to this important event in the history of the Crimean Tatar people and to its first congress held in November 1917, in which work was carried out to launch the Constitution of the People's Republic of Crimea, based on recognition of the equality of all Crimean residents, regardless of their nationality, the idea of increasing equality for women, proclaiming fundamental democratic freedoms, even adopting the flag and the National anthem. All this was thwarted in early 1918 when the Bolsheviks established the Socialist Soviet Republic of Taurida on Crimean territory.
The reverse of the coin shows, with a mosque at the bottom on the right and the parliament on the left, the Crimean delegates who participated in the first Tatar National Congress. On the edge of the coin and in a circular form it is read in Ukrainian and Azeri "First congress of the Crimean Tatar people" and in the central part "100 YEARS".
The obverse shows the map of the Crimean peninsula in blue on which in yellow letters is read the national anthem of the Crimean Tatar people. As usual in all Ukrainian currencies, the national emblem of Ukraine is also represented, the year of issue "2017", the face value 5 "grivnas" and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
