Battle of Hastings


The Battle of Hastings was the confrontation between the troops of the last Anglo-Saxon king of England, Harold the Saxon, and the army of the Duke of Normandy, William the Bastard.

The meeting took place on October 14, 1066 at Senlac Hill, 11 km north of Hastings, south of London. The battle ended in a decisive victory for pyrrhic although Norman, Harold dying in it and allowing Guillermo claim the English throne, becoming known as William the Conqueror.

Thereafter it was politically united to the Duchy of Normandy, in northern France.Disputes over the government of that territory would be the last cause of the Hundred Years' War between the crowns of France and England.
