The second of the quarter (currency of 25 cents) of this year 2019 dedicated to the American Memorial Park, located in the Northern Mariana Islands, was issued on April 1 as currency. The coin belongs to the series "America the Beautiful Quarter", dedicated to emblematic places and national parks of the United States.
The design shows a young woman in traditional clothes in the foreground, resting her hand on the plaque whose text honors the sacrifice of those who died in the Marianas Campaign of the Second World War. In the background is represented the Circle of the Flag and the Court of Honor, where the American flag is surrounded by the flags of the Navy, the Marine Corps, the Army and the Coast Guard. The inscriptions are "AMERICAN MEMORIAL PARK", "N.MARIANA ISLANDS", "2019" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM", Latin phrase meaning "Of many, one". It is one of the first national slogans in the United States and refers to the integration of the thirteen British colonies in North America to create a single independent country.
On the obverse of all the coins in the series, President George Washington is represented in a version restored by John Flanagan in 2010 of the original portrait used in 1932 in the Washington Quarter.
