The European Central Bank (ECB) has presented today the new 100 and 200 euros banknotes that will go into circulation officially on 28 May. As the 500 ticket is no longer produced at the end of the year, the renewal of the euro banknote series called Europa is considered completed.

The name of the series, Europe, is because two of its security elements show a portrait of Europe, a character from Greek mythology that gives its name to the continent.

Although the design of the Europa series is based on the theme "epochs and styles" of the first series, the new notes have been modified to give them an updated look and incorporate new and improved security elements, which also allow to distinguish both series easily.

Reinhold Gerstetter, an independent ticket designer based in Berlin, was selected to update the design of the tickets.

On the obverse of the tickets of both series are windows and doors, which symbolize the European spirit of openness and cooperation. The bridges that appear on the back are a symbol of the communication of European peoples with each other and with the rest of the world.

As in the first series, the tickets of the Europa series represent architectural styles from different periods of European history, which do not reproduce monuments or real bridges. The styles are the following:

€ 5: classic
€ 10: Romanesque
€ 20: Gothic
€ 50: Renaissance
€ 100: Baroque and Rococo
€ 200: architecture of iron and glass of the 19th century

I have prepared a montage with all the videos disseminated by the ECB in which we present the new ticket, we show their security measures, we can see the production of paper and how they finally print the tickets. I recommend you see it, it's very interesting.
