Giving continuity to the series of coins that is being issued at European level under the name "Ages of Europe", this year they are broadcasted under the theme "Baroque and Rococo". The Portuguese INCM, meanwhile, has issued officially today the coin with 5 euros facial with which it participates in this European initiative, being able to acquire in different metals and prices, under the same design. Curiously, this piece is only dedicated to the Baroque, an artistic style that is distinguished by the splendor and the exuberance that had its peak in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

The Portuguese coin, designed by the sculptor António Marinho, mixes the religious and the profane, aspects recognized in the Baroque style, where a Cherub, a spiritual element, coexists with the exuberance of the ornaments and the image of a shell of precious stones, symbols of material wealth.

On the obverse is the National Shield, in the background there is a European star and at the base the symbol of the series «Europe». In the central core stands a spiral decorative ornament characteristic of the Baroque style, which emphasizes the antagonistic forms of curve and countercurve. On the edge of the piece appear the inscriptions and legends "Portugal", the year of issue "2018", "INCM" and the name of the author A. Marinho.

The images shown here correspond to the cupronickel currency, which can be acquired at its face value in Portuguese banks.
