The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business has approved the issuance of a new commemorative €2 coin , under the slogan "Spain and disability: protection, rights, and inclusion ." The provision, published today in the Official State Gazette (Order ECM/1257/2025, of November 3), establishes its minting and circulation during the first quarter of 2026
The coin, which will be legal tender throughout the eurozone, commemorates the reform of Article 49 of the Spanish Constitution , approved to adapt its content to the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities . This amendment marked a milestone in the defense of the rights, dignity, and inclusion of people with disabilities in Spain.
A design with constitutional symbolism
The obverse of the coin features the image of hands holding a book representing the Spanish Constitution , above which appears the inscription "Article 49 INCLUSION ." To the left is "SPAIN ," and to the right the year of minting, 2026 , next to the mint mark of the National Mint. The entire design is surrounded by the twelve stars of the European Union , a symbol of unity and harmony among the peoples of Europe
The reverse maintains the common design of all euro 2 coins in the eurozone, with the word EURO and a map of the European continent. The edge features the inscription "2 *"*, repeated six times and alternating its orientation.
Limited issue and distribution
The maximum mintage will be 1,500,000 pieces , which will be minted by the National Mint and Stamp Factory–Royal Mint , on behalf of the State. These coins will be distributed through the Bank of Spain , which will put them into circulation gradually according to market demand.
Up to five examples will be allocated to the numismatic collections of the FNMT Museum , as historical evidence of the issue.
A commitment to inclusion and European values
According to the official text, the minting of this coin represents "an instrument for projecting Spain's commitment to the values of dignity, equality, and inclusion that inspire our social and democratic State under the rule of law."
With this initiative, Spain not only celebrates a constitutional reform of enormous social significance, but also reaffirms its role in building a fairer and more inclusive Europe, where people with disabilities occupy their rightful place with equal rights.
