A few days ago, what appears to be the first coin of a new series entitled “Flora and Fauna” was issued in Italy, the first piece of which is dedicated to “La Margarita”. This collection is made up of one-ounce silver coins with a face value of 0.25 euros. Although I do not yet have official information confirming that this is a completely new series, various unofficial sources indicate that this is the case.
The Coin
Two enchanting images blossom on the surface of this one-ounce pure silver coin, paying beautiful homage to the natural world: a resplendent daisy, a symbol of light and purity, and a splendid woman's face, the personification of Italian flora, crowned by flowers and olive and oak branches.
Obverse: Daisy flowers stand out in the centre, with the scientific name “LEUCANTHEMUM” on the left. On the right, the year of issue, “2025”, and the “R” mark, which identifies the Mint of Rome, appear. Around the edge, the inscription “ITALIAN REPUBLIC” surrounds the scene. At the bottom, a rhombus with the author’s signature, “A.MASINI”, is shown as the designer’s signature on the obverse.
Reverse: In the centre, a female face with thick hair surrounded by a wreath of various species of flowers. To the left of the wreath, an olive branch is shown together with the inscription “0.25EURO”, the coin’s face value; to the right, an oak branch. In the upper left corner, the word “FLORA” appears and in the lower right corner, “1 oz Ag 999”, separated by a rhombus. At the bottom, the author’s signature on the reverse, “M.CIUCCI”, completes the design.
