The Central Reserve Bank of Peru has put into circulation the first coin of the Numismatic Series Constructores de la República Bicentenario 1821 - 2021, alluding to Juan Pablo Viscardo and Guzmán. These coins are legal tender and will circulate simultaneously with the current 1 sol coins.
Through this collection, which consists of 9 coins, it will be remembered and paid homage to the characters who, between the 18th and 19th centuries, fought with their ideas or weapons
to achieve the freedom of Peru.
This first coin, put into circulation today October 9, 2020, bears the image of Juan Pablo Viscardo y Guzmán, who was born in Pampacolca, Arequipa, in 1748, and died in exile in London in 1798. His contribution to the cause independence was given from the field of ideas. His most important document is the "Letter to the
American Spaniards ", a letter with which he addressed all of America with a message of freedom and the promise of a better future after breaking with the colonial yoke.
On the reverse, in the central part, you can see the image of Juan Pablo Viscardo y Guzmán and a paper and pen as an allegory of his "Letter to the American Spanish."
There is also a geometric design of vertical lines and the mark of the National Mint. On the left side, the phrase Bicentennial 1821-2021, the denomination in number and the name of the monetary unit. Next to the denomination the isotype of the Bicentennial can be seen , as a symbol of the series. At the top the name of the character is shown: Juan Pablo Viscardo y Guzmán.
