In the Chamber of the Great General Council in the Government Building, headquarters of the main institutional organs of the Republic, an impressive painting dominates the throne of the Captains Regents, representing the Appearance of San Marino to his people, painted by Emilio Retrosi in 1894 San Marinus has in his left hand an open book with the Latin phrase "Relinquo vos liberos utroque ab homine" (I leave you free of one and another man: emperor and pope). According to tradition, these are the last words of San Marinus and symbolize the legacy he wanted to leave to his people: freedom.

After the change of 2017 of the national designs of coins in euros, the 50 cent coin of San Marino now shows a detail of the figure of the Saint, taken from the famous painting of Retrosi.
