Gheorghe Munteanu-Murgoci (1872 -1925)

It has been just over a month since the INCM of Portugal (Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda) issued a coin in two of its three versions, with the same design but in different metals, dedicated to the 2024 European Championship of National Football Teams. Then one of the versions of this coin could not be issued, and it was issued today, July 24.

By the way, before continuing with the presentation of this new coin, I want to inform you that the coin I presented here a few days ago to celebrate the Spanish team's UEFA Euro 2024 title has been delayed for a few days. Initially, it was announced that it would be issued and put on sale today, but I have just learned that it will not be until next Tuesday, July 30.

Portugal UEFA Euro 2024 5 Euro Silver Coin

The obverse of the coin shows a stylised general representation of a stadium, with the coat of arms of Portugal at the top, in the centre of an armillary sphere. On either side of the central football field are the inscriptions of the coin's face value "5 EURO" and the name of the issuing country "Portugal", while at the bottom of the composition is the official logo of the event "UEFA EURO 2024".

On the other hand, on the reverse of the coin we see in the centre a dynamic football in motion next to the feet of two players, adorned by ribbons coming out of each of them. Around the upper edge of the coin appears the text of the name of the event "UEFA EURO 2024TM", and on the lower right edge the name of the author of the piece "Hugo Maciel" and the identifier of the "Casa da Moeda".

O nouă monedă comemorativă din Canada - 24.07.2024 - VIDEO

The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a new two-ounce silver coin, the third in the “Multifaceted Animal Family” series. This time, the protagonists are a family of grey wolves, and as in previous coins in the series, the animals are depicted with engravings called multifaceted.

Multifaceted engraving is an innovative approach to creating dimensional art. When applied to a species of wildlife whose shape is well-known, the highly reflective geometric facets enhance the wildlife design and transform it into something truly unique, something that can also be seen in this piece depicting a family of wolves.

Gray wolves (Canis lupus) live in packs, and all members work together to hunt and raise their young. Pups remain with their parents' pack until they reach reproductive age, around 2 or 3 years old, when they set out to find a mate and form a new pack.

Wolves have traditionally symbolized trust and courage in the wild, but they also exhibit traits such as dedication and loyalty, as demonstrated by their close family and social bonds. These same traits are displayed on the third coin in the Multifaceted Animal Family series, which features a mother grey wolf caring for her three curious pups in another tender moment set in the Canadian wilderness. This close-knit family has been depicted in a bold geometric art style within a classically engraved scene, to present a more multifaceted view of the species and the boreal forest ecosystem it inhabits.

The obverse features a polygonal pattern and the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, the work of Canadian artist Steven Rosati.

The first coin in a series dedicated to “Great Music Composers” will be issued in San Marino on 25 July. This inaugural piece is entitled “Centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini”. The coin is inspired by Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly.

Giacomo Puccini was born in Lucca in 1858 into an ancient family of musicians and became famous throughout the world for his operatic talent, his compositional personality and his melody. Thanks to his innate communicative originality, theatrical sense and sensitivity with which he was endowed, he created a musical opera that conquered the theatres of the world.

The Philatelic and Numismatic Division of San Marino commemorates Puccini on the centenary of the artist's death on 29 November 1924 in Belgium, with a coin depicting the protagonist of one of his most famous operas: Madama Butterfly.

The obverse shows the coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino (A. Napolione).

The reverse features a portrait of Madama Butterfly, the protagonist of the opera of the same name, three butterflies in flight, a boat on the left and a musical score at the bottom. The composition of the coin is completed by the dates “1924-2024” and the legend “PUCCINI”, in the centre the letter R, which identifies the Mint of Rome, on the right the value 5 EURO, at the bottom centre the name of the author “D. LONGO” and the initials of Annalisa Masini, who was in charge of the engraving, AMINC.
