We are going with another novelty that has just happened within the 2 euro commemorative coin issues. San Marino has made public the design and date of issue of the second coin of this type issued in 2019 dedicated to the "550th Anniversary of the death of Filippo Lippi", outstanding painter of the Italian quattrocento.
The coin presents part of the work The Virgin with the child and the two angels by Filippo Lippi made around 1465, it is one of his most well-known and admired paintings of the Renaissance.
Filippo Lippi, a Carmelite monk, not faithful to the obligations of religious life, fell madly in love with the nun Lucrezia Buti. She corresponded and after years of passionate and "secret" romance, both renounced their vows. They had two sons, a daughter and a son, Filippino, destined to become a famous painter who followed in his father's footsteps.
The popularity of this work is probably derived from the fact that many think that the Virgin could be the portrait of Lucrezia Buti.
The work is in the Uffizi Gallery, a palace and museum in Florence that contains one of the oldest and most famous art collections in the world.
The coins will be presented as you can see in the image and will be issued officially next August 29.
