If everything is fulfilled as planned, tomorrow July 11 will be issued the two commemorative 2 euro coins of Greece for this 2019, dedicated to the "Centenary of the birth of Manolis Andronikos" and the "150 years of the death of Andreas Kalvos." There will only be two possibilities to get hold of any of the 750,000 coins that will be issued for each reason. The first and simplest will be to use those issued in rolls of 25 coins by the Bank of Greece, practically almost the entire issue will be put into circulation in this way. As a second option, and much more complicated, will be to acquire one of the 1,500 eurosets with eight regular circulation coins in Proof quality, which are accompanied by the two commemorative in this same quality.

Centenary of the birth of Manolis Andronikos
Manolis Andronicos (1919-1992) was one of the greatest archaeologists in Greece. The discovery he made of the royal tumulus of Vergina in 1977 revealed findings of great value that confirm the splendor of the ancient Macedonian civilization.

The motif shows a portrait of Manolis Andronicos. On the left, in a semicircle from bottom to top, is the inscription "ΜΑΝΌΛΗΣ ΑΝΔΡΌΝΙΚΟΣ 1919-1992", and, to the right of this, the year of coining and a palmette (mint mark of the Greek coin); in the lower right, in a semicircle from left to right, is the inscription "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ". In the lower right, you can also see the artist's monogram (George Stamatopoulos). The twelve stars of the European flag appear in the circular crown of the coin.

150 years after the death of Andreas Kalvos
Born in Zante, Andreas Kalvos (1792-1869) is one of the most important modern Greek poets. By merging his solid neoclassical education with the lofty ideals of romanticism and giving an archaic twist to the demotic Greek, he succeeded in expressing both the revolutionary ideas of his time and his own vision.

The national side of the coin shows a portrait of Andreas Kalvos. On the left, in a semicircle from bottom to top, there is the inscription "ΑΝΔΡΈΑΣ ΚΆΛΒΟΣ 1792-1869", and, to the right of this, the year of coining and a palmette (mint mark of the Greek coin); in the lower right, in a semicircle from left to right, is the inscription "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ". In the lower right, you can also see the artist's monogram (George Stamatopoulos). The twelve stars of the European flag appear in the circular crown of the coin.
