The Suomen Rahapaja, Finland Mint, announces the emission of the ninth and last coin of the series "National Landscapes of Finland" dedicated to the "Castle of Olavinlinna and Lake Pihlajavesi". The series is composed of nine bimetallic pieces with facials of 5 euros that correspond to the favorite landscapes chosen by their citizens in a vote held during the summer of 2017.

The obverse of the coin shows the Olavinlinna castle and the Pihlajavesi lake, located in the city of Savonlinna. With 712.59 km² Lake Pihlajaves is one of the largest lakes in Finland. In 1930 there were about 20 inhabited islands in the lake, with a population of around 1,000 people, but the rural exodus caused them to be reduced to only about 200 inhabitants. The castle of Olavinlinna is a stone fortress with three towers built in the fifteenth century. From medieval times, it is the best preserved stone castle in the north of the planet.

The reverse designed by Mari Metso shows an image of the map of Finland where a small circle shows the location of the city of Savonlinna where the Olavinlinna castle and the Pihlajavesi lake are located.

This and all of the series can be purchased in BU and Proof qualities.
