When you want to recognize a character, a historical event, an institution of recognized prestige, etc., with a 2 euro coin, it should not be a blank letter to express anything in it and get out of step. This has been happening repeatedly with the issues of currency that Slovenia has been putting into circulation, and is aggravated by knowing the design that we have prepared for the commemorative 2 euro coin issued in 2019, dedicated to the "Centennial of the founding of the University of Ljubljana ». More than trying to pay tribute to a prestigious institution, with its design it seems that what they have tried is to put anything in the coin and put on the medal of having paid tribute to the university for its century of existence. The description of the central motif represented, says the ministry of finance, which is the logo of the university, but really is part of the logo. As you can see in the image on the left, only the lower part of this one is represented, the simplest one and the one with the least work involved. The composition is completed with the texts, "100 YEARS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SLOVENIA" AND "SLOVENIA 2019" and fifty percent of the field completely blank.
Any person, without any knowledge of design, could have done better, but apparently what matters is to comply with the file, and something else.
On the other hand I think that if there is so much talk of security measures in counterfeiting, not only of bills but also of coins, the simplicity of this design may be attractive to counterfeiters, and that is where the European Commission should demand something more.
From the point of view of collectors, a topic to be taken into account for all those who want their coins in quality without circulating and in the best possible state, is knowing that it will be very difficult to get any of these coins without imperfections, the fact that the design has so much white space will make it easier for any minimum scratch to produce a scratch and I will not say anything if you put some finger on it, then you will complete the design of the coin.
