The fifth coin of the series "Fauna in cultural monuments of Ukraine" dedicated to the Lion, was issued last April 11 by the Bank of Ukraine. This piece and all of the series have facials of 5 hryven and are minted in 925 silver of purity.
On the obverse of this piece, and all of the series, is represented in gold a monument, piece or historical engraving dedicated to the animal in question, always located or discovered in Ukraine. On the reverse we see a characteristic image of the animal.
The obverse shows at the top a small emblem of the State of Ukraine and the inscription Ukraine, the year of coinage 2017 and its nominal value. In gold appears the stylized fragment of a lion corresponding to century XII located in the museum of the city of Jersón, to the right we see the complete piece from where the fragment is extracted.
In the reverse one represents the head of a lion (left) and an allusive representation to these of century XI located in the Caves of Kiev (right). The old motifs are commonly found in the decorative art of the Middle Ages, alongside centaurs, lions, dragons ... On the right side and vertically the text "Leon" is shown.
