The Bank of Estonia (Eesti Pank) has convened a design contest for the 2-euro commemorative coin to be issued in 2018 dedicated to the "100 Years of the Republic of Estonia". A couple of hours ago he announced the sketch that has been chosen to be represented in the currency.

The design for the two-euro coin has the official logo for the Estonian Centennial celebrated in 2018, this can be read as the numbers 18 or 100. This way of arranging the numbers joins the year of foundation of state 18 ( 1918) and the centenary of this (100). The winning designers are Ionel Lehari and Meelis Opmann of the design agency OÜ, which is also the body behind the official logo for Estonia's centenary. The prize for the winners is 2,000 euros.

The curious fact for this currency will be its volume of emission that will ascend to the figure of 1,317,800 pieces, the same as the number of inhabitants with which the country counts according to the statistics of January 1, 2017.

This coin will join the one dedicated to the "Centenary of the Foundation of the Independent Baltic States", in a joint issue with Latvia and Lithuania, which will be two commemorative 2 euro coins that Estonia issues in 2018.
