If on Monday we took a tour of the World Money Fair 2020 focusing only on the commemorative 2-euro coins presented by the different Mint, today we will take a wider tour, looking at other currencies that also caught the attention of visitors and in an awards ceremony that took place crowning the Best Currency in the World 2020. We started with the latter.
If you remember, on December 17, I showed you the 10 winning currencies of the Year 2020 Currency in their different categories, coins that were issued during 2018. Among these we still had to know the absolute winner that would be awarded during the Fair. This award popularly known as COTY (Coin Of The Year) is awarded by Krause Publications, known primarily for its books dedicated to coins and bills (World Coins and World Paper Money). Finally the Best Currency of the year 2020 was for the Latvian Mint and its Honey Currency.
The Honey Coin, is a gold-plated silver collector coin with a face value of 5 euros. This coin by Artūrs Analts, received the first prize for the innovative design it presents. The Honey Coin, according to its designer, wants to highlight the role that bees play in the preservation of biodiversity. Its presence is an indicator of the health of nature.
As every year the Austrian Mint raises great expectations and did not disappoint those who passed by. Everyone expected to see the silver and niobium coin that this year will be issued under the name of Big Data and there they could see both the sketch and a coin already minted.
The collectors of ounces of silver had several novelties to acquire. For example, a coin minted by The Perth Mint Australia dedicates Krusty the clown, character from the Simpsons cartoon series.
Other silver ounce coins that were also presented as a novelty arousing a lot of interest, are those dedicated to Harry Potter, and another for the 80th anniversary of the cartoon series Tom and Jerry.
Closing with the ounces of silver was also presented and one dedicated to the famous agent James Bond 007 could be acquired.
