Egypt has put into circulation a new bimetallic coin of 1 Egyptian Pound (€ 0.49), dedicated to the new city of Al Alamein, one of the four new cities under construction by the government as a solution to the growing population of Egypt. Currently the country has about 97 million inhabitants and grows at a rate of 2 percent each year. According to the authorities, around 11 thousand people already live in the new city, whose goal is to house a population of 400,000 after the completion of the first phase and can reach 3 million inhabitants in a period of 40 years.

Surrounded by ornamental ornaments the center of the coin shows a stylized composition that symbolizes the new city of Al Alamein currently under construction.

The reverse, common to all 1-pound coins, shows the name of the country in Arabic, the year of issue in the Gregorian and hijri calendar years, both in Arabic, and the face value.

Characteristics of the currency

Face value: 1 Egyptian pound (€ 0.49)
Diameter: 25 mm
Weight: 8.5 g
Issue date: February 2019
Issue volume: unknown

Beware, do not confuse this coin with another very similar presented here on January 21.

One more
When going to publish this entry I have seen that Egypt has issued another currency of the same characteristics, which also wants to honor those people who live far from the big cities. "The new rural Egypt", to which the coin is dedicated , wants to value the wealth that is generated in these environments, augmented by a modernization in its agriculture based mainly on the new systems of cultivation and irrigation.

Surrounded by ornamental ornaments, the center of the coin shows a stylized composition that symbolizes agriculture as a fundamental part of the country's wealth.

The reverse is the same for both currencies.
