Between the years 2009 to 2016 in Turkey, a series of 20 bimetallic coins dedicated to all kinds of animals was issued, the coins had the face value of 1 Turkish lira. Retaking partly the idea and part of the characteristics of those coins, a new series of 15 coins has just been issued, this time all at once, in which the protagonists are 15 birds that inhabit the country.

Under the name Birds of Anatolia have been put on sale the fifteen pieces that have facials of 1 kurus (1 cent of Turkish lira) at the price of 5 liras each (0.83 euros). The pity is that this time the coins are not bimetallic and the designs, in general, do not have the quality of their predecessors. Anyway I think you may find it interesting to know about them, because the theme of animals on coins is a subject that has many followers within the numismatic world.

Anatolian Bird Series Coins

The last one that you can see in the image, is the common reverse of the whole series.

Characteristics common to the entire series

Face value: 1 kurus
Metal: Cupronickel
Diameter: 32 mm
Weight: 12 g
Issue volume: 16,000 of each
One thing that improves with respect to the previous issued of animals by Turkey, is the size and quality of minting. the diameter is 32 mm (33 mm have the coins of 30 euros in Spain), so they are large coins, and are minted in Proof quality. It would be very interesting to see real currencies, to be able to value this series much better.

As I know that more than one will now ask me where I can buy them, my answer is that I have not seen them for sale yet, but I recommend you ask the advertisers that appear here, surely someone brings them. You also have the assurance that they are trustworthy companies and merchants.
