To finish with the new Vatican issues issued on October 5, I present the coins of 20 and 50 euros minted in gold, both dedicated to the "Pontifical Basilica of San Antonio de Padova".

The triennial celebratory cycle of the Pontifical Delegations closes with the emission of the series of golden coins of 20 and 50 euros dedicated to the Basilica of San Antonio in Padua.

Currency of 20 Euros

 

The 20 euros of gold, work of the artist Mariangela Crisciotti, is inspired in the classic image of San Antonio in which appears with the semblant of a young religious, with Jesus child in the arms and a lily in the hand. The sackcloth reminds us of his belonging to the Franciscan order while the Infant Jesus, in addition to remembering the vision of Camposampiero expresses his devotion to the humanity of Christ and at the same time, his intimacy with God. 

 

Currency of 50 Euros

The gold designed by Patrizio Daniele represents the façade of the Basilica, one of the best works of art in the world. The construction of the temple began shortly after the death of the saint, in 1232, in order to receive the pilgrims who, from the beginning, arrived at the place where they rest their mortal remains.

 

 

If, in the whole, the majestic building shows a strong influence of the Basilica of San Marco of Venice, in the strong and imposing structures it is strictly Romanesque, while the whole part of the separated apse and with nine chapels in its interior belongs to the purest Gothic style. These diverse and contrasting characteristics are combined in a set of the original everything that, at first glance, distinguishes the Basilica from any other place of medieval worship.
