The Bank of Ukraine issued today a coin with facial of 5 hryven minted on an alloy of alpaca, also known as German silver, to commemorate the «Centennial of the National Academic Theater M. Zankovetska».
The reverse of the coin shows the portrait of Maria Zankovetska who was one of the most important theater actresses of the time, then called Ukrainian National Academic Theater, who toured the country with the financial support of the government and finally ended located permanently in the city of Lviv, adopting the name of the artist. On the stage appear names of cities and years in which the theater was established.
The reverse shows underneath a curtain the building of the National Academic Theater M. Zankovetska, located in the heart of the city of Lviv. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this prestigious building was built in the middle of the 19th century, and until World War I was used, as a theater, as a room of sessions of the local government. As is customary in all Ukrainian currencies, the national coat of arms of Ukraine, the year of issue, the face value and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine are also represented.
