Vatican Gendarmerie

In the State of the Vatican City two armed forces, one are the Swiss Guards, famous for their colorful uniforms, and the Vatican Gendarmerie using the classic blue kepi.

The body of the Vatican police, the gendarmerie, was born in 1816 by the will of Pius VII, after the Congress of Vienna, with the name of the Papal Carabinieri Corps. With the return of Pius VII from exile in Gaeta, he took the name Pontifical Gendarmerie, body today composed of about 150 gendarmes, which is attached since 2008 to Interpol.
