Description:
The Monnaie de Paris closes out its three-year Rooster coin program featuring the art of longtime mint engraver Joaquin Jimenez. Jimenez’ rooster design debuted in 2014. The 2016 is the first 2016-dated coin released by the Monnaie de Paris. This .333 silver coin has a 10-euro face value and has been issued in uncirculated condition at face value.
Obverse:
A modern representation of a Rooster. The rooster’s head and shoulders are framed in a circle. The colors of the French flag are rendered in heraldic tinctures of azure and gules. The inscription, the French motto, reads “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité”. The coin is dated 2016 (date appears to left of rooster’s legs). Jimenez’ designer mark (a square within a larger square) is at the coin’s 5 o’clock position. Privy marks at 12 o’clock.
Reverse:
Multiple hexagons (France is often referred to as L’Hexagone) surround the text RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. In the center of the silver coin, the denomination EURO 10 is inscribed in italics and is surrounded by an olive branch at the top and an oak branch at the bottom.
Designer(s): Designer Joaquin Jimenez has designed coins and medals for the Monnaie de Paris since 1986. His Starry Tree design serves as the national side of the French 1- and 2-euro circulating coins. View Designer’s Profile.
