Yesterday, November 14, the Bank of Hungary issued a 3,000-forint coin (7.37 euros) under the name of the 'Magyar Gyermekorvosok Társasága' (Hungarian Association of Pediatricians), to celebrate the centenary of its foundation. The coin was designed by artist Andrea Horváth.

The Hungarian Association of Pediatricians is one of the most important scientific pediatric organizations in Hungary. Under the chairmanship of János Bókay, its foundation was prepared by a committee consisting of Ármin Fleschm, Pál Heim and Ferenc Torday. Since its first meeting on 14 December 1924, the Association has been serving the health and well-being of children. Over the past century, it has contributed to preserving the health of 15 million children. While the pediatric profession has experienced considerable development, the principles on which the Association was built remain its guiding principles: healing based on scientific knowledge, protecting the health of children, supporting families and uniting the professional community.

The obverse of the coin features a composition referring to the Association's science-based healing activity, with a depiction of a stethoscope 'resting' on two specialist textbooks. In addition to the thematic motif, the obverse features the obligatory design elements of collector coins: above, in a semicircular legend, the inscription 'MAGYARORSZÁG' (HUNGARY); below, in two lines, the denomination '3000' and the inscription 'FORINT'. Below the composition, the year of issue '2024' and the mint mark 'BP.' are also found in two lines. The designer's mark, Andrea Horváth, was placed on the spine of the lower specialist textbook.

The reverse of the coin features a central motif of a female doctor examining a baby, which in its composition also refers to the Association's official logo, as seen on the right. The upper semicircular legend spells out the full name of the Association; the message of the collector coin is completed by the lower semicircular legend '100 ÉVE A GYERMEKEK GYÓGYÍTÁSÁÉRT' (100 YEARS OF HEALING CHILDREN), which is the motto of the Association and reflects the theme of this issue. The circular legends are connected on each side by a heart motif.
