Today, November 7, the Bank of Malta puts into circulation its second commemorative 2-euro coin of 2018, which within the series "Children and Solidarity" this year is broadcast under the theme "Cultural Heritage". All the designs of the series come out of a contest among high school students in Malta.

Designed by Nicole Dimech, a student at the University of San Nicolás, the coin shows a variety of themes characteristic of the Maltese heritage, specifically: an allusion to prehistoric temples, which are the oldest independent structures in
the world, the dome and the bell tower of a church, which are a characteristic feature of the profile of Maltese towns and villages, and a representation of a traditional Maltese boat carrying a country flag. The name of the issuing State "Malta" is in the upper part of the central circle and the year "2018" in its lower part.

These commemorative coins have been produced as circulation and are issued in rolls of 25 coins each, as well as in coin cards. The number of coins in rolls is 300,000; while the number of coins in coin cards is limited to 20,000. The coins presented in coin cards bear the mint mark of the Monnaie de Paris, where the coins were minted and put on sale in Malta at the price of € 7. Proceeds from the sale of the coin cards will go to the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.
