The Mhar Monastery is a male monastery of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine located on the right bank of the Sula river near the city of Lubny (Poltava Oblast, Ukraine) founded in 1619. The Monastery has always played an important role in the spiritual life of Ukraine, being one of the most outstanding examples of the architecture of the Ukrainian baroque era.

At the end of the 400 years of its foundation, the Bank of Ukraine issued on May 21 two coins, both with the same design, with facials of 5 and 10 grivnas minted alpaca and silver respectively.




On the obverse of the coin is shown: at the top the Small State Emblem of Ukraine, on the left of which the name UKRAINE appears, on the right the inscription BANK OF UKRAINE; on a mirror background, a stylized composition: the figures of a Cossack (left) and a monk (right), fragments of Baroque molding (above and below); the denomination 5 or 10 GRIVNAS (according to currency) and the year of issue of the 2019 currency. 


 
On the back of the coin there is a panoramic composition of the set of constructions of the monastery; the inscriptions: MHAR MONASTERY OF THE TRANSFIGURATION OF SALVADOR (full name of the Monastery), figure in the upper semicircle, and 400 YEARS, in the lower part; In the upper left and lower right there are decorative Baroque elements present in the Monastery.
