This year marks the 90th anniversary since the author of Peter Pan, the Scottish James Matthew Barrie, gave all his rights to Peter Pan to the Great Ormond Street Hospital. The Great Ormond Street Hospital is the first hospital for children in England, founded in London in 1852. The hospital, today, has the copyright of Peter Pan, after it was transferred by its author in life in April. 1929. This gift from Barrie means that the hospital is in charge of authorizing any use of Peter Pan's work.
To commemorate this generous gift, which continues to benefit the hospital to this day, the Isle of Man has launched a new set of coins dedicated to Peter Pan. These new and beautiful coins have been produced by The Westminster Collection and minted by The Tower Mint in collaboration with the charity organization for children Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH Charity). For each set of coins sold, a donation will be made to GOSH Charity to help the hospital and seriously ill children across the UK who are served there.
Each coin represents a well-known character and a quote from the story. The illustrations of the coins were made for the Press Edition of the University of Oxford in 2007 and have been donated by David Wyatt for this special occasion.
The coin game consists of six different pieces with 50 pence facials, minted in two versions, the most economical in BU quality with a starting price of around 40 pounds (€ 45). For the most demanding is the colored version in Proof quality and 925 silver purity, with starting price that is around 380 pounds (€ 425), although the latter is already sold out, so it will be quite the price that is I must pay to get a game of these.
