On Monday 8 February the Monnaie de Paris issued several coins alluding to the European Football Championship 2016. France sure you all know the 2-euro commemorative which I have already spoken several times and is confirmed for the first issue day next week. Those who do not know are possible are two dedicated to the same sporting event that will go on sale at face value, 10 and 100 euros. Both share design, very nice indeed, except metal on which are minted, one in silver and one in gold.
Commemorative 2-euro coin
The European Championship men's soccer Championship, organized every four years since 1960 and is commonly called the Euro, will be held in France from 10 June to 10 July 2016. The Euro 2016 is the fifteenth edition the European Cup, a competition organized by the Union of European Football Associations bringing together the best European male teams. The Henri Delaunay trophy named after the inventor of the competition, delivered in shortened version the winner of it.
The coin depicts the Henri Delaunay trophy right in the middle of a silhouette map of France, flanked by two marks on the Mint of Paris. To the right of the map of France is the RF (French Republic) indication. France appears to be crowned with the name of the competition, "UEFA EURO 2016 France '. Below a ball in the foreground. The whole rests on a background composed of graphic elements that represent the competition.
The issue volume for this piece are 10,000,000, of which 10,000 are issued as BU and another 10,000 in Proof, the price of 10 and 20 euros respectively, in France. Contrary to what was previously thought, higher versions will not be colored.
As I said earlier the two currencies share the same design. The obverse depicts the legs of a player about to hit a ball, while the right logo competition shown. At the bottom of the coin is inscribed with the year on a simulated piece of grass.
The reverse of the coin shows its nominal value € 10 or € 100 surrounded by two branches of oak and laurel, which evoke the euro symbol. The design of the entire back is framed by a set of lines representing France.
