The Tour de France is the world's most famous cycling race, and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its arrival on Paris's famed Champs-Élysées avenue, the final stage of the 2025 Tour de France, the Monnaie de Paris is unveiling a two-part coin collection.

The first part consists of two commemorative coins, worth 10 and 50 euros, which were unveiled 100 days before the start of the race in Lille, northern France. The remaining collector coins and mini-medals will be available just a few days before the start of the race.

This major sporting event draws millions of spectators each year for three weeks to follow the exploits of incredible athletes and travel across France. The Tour de France was first organized in 1903 by the newspaper L'Auto, with the aim of attracting its audience and, above all, overcoming its competitor Le Vélo. Today, it is the third most-watched sporting event in the world, after the World Cup and the Olympic Games.

However, the Tour de France hasn't always finished on the Champs-Élysées. This date back to 1975, thanks to journalist Yves Mourousi, who reportedly contacted Valéry Giscard d'Estaing directly to suggest the idea. And so, to the applause of 1.5 million spectators, Frenchman Bernard Thévenet was proclaimed the winner of the 1975 Tour de France on the Champs-Élysées.

Today, this stage has become a key moment in the competition, consolidating the Champs-Élysées as an iconic cycling venue.

Common design

Obverse: Shows a depiction of a Tour de France cyclist with his fist raised in victory. Behind him is the symbol of the Champs-Élysées: the Arc de Triomphe. On the left, the silhouette of a classic cyclist is depicted, a reference to the participants of the 1975 Tour de France. The coin's rim and spokes are reminiscent of a bicycle wheel. The Tour de France logo appears on the right, the year on the left, and the emblems are inscribed on the inner tube.

Reverse: The face value occupies a central position, highlighted by the presence of two branches: one laurel and the other oak, evoking the euro symbol. This design is surrounded by the inscription of the issuing country, "République Française" (French Republic), and framed by a geometric pattern of lines forming a hexagon on the outer edge.
