The Bank of Latvia called a competition in January this year in which the design of a currency that was primarily innovative was sought, a total of 42 sketches were presented from which the winner has already been selected. The industrial designer Artūrs Analts has been proclaimed winner with his work called Medus (Honey), for which he will receive a prize of 2,500 euros.
The Bank of Latvia, together with its Mint and the author himself, are now set in motion to translate the design into a currency that should be issued by the end of the year.
This design competition also have second and third prizes, which have fallen to Mārcis Kalniņš for his work "H2OABC" and Artūrs Šēnfelds for "Values of Gold". These will receive a cash prize of 1,500 and 1,000 euros respectively.
