Our Constitution was approved in a referendum by the Spanish people on December 6, 1978, being the only Magna Carta in our history that has been endorsed through free and direct consultation with the citizens. With it, Spain became a modern parliamentary monarchy.
The Spanish Constitution is the supreme legal norm of the State. One of the characteristic features of the Constitution of 78 is that it was reached by consensus among the different political formations of the parliamentary arch. Since 1986, Constitution Day has been celebrated.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution, the National Factory of Currency and Timbre-Real Casa de la Moneda has prepared a commemorative issue of such a significant date. Formed by a coin minted in sterling silver with proof and facial quality of 10 euros, it is available to the public from yesterday November 12.
On the back, occupying the central part, an image of an open copy of the Spanish Constitution is reproduced; on the right, the mint mark. In the upper part of the coin, in a circular and uppercase, the legend SPANISH CONSTITUTION and the dates 1978 and 2018, distributed around the image of one of the Lions sculpted by Ponciano Ponzano, who guards the Palace of the Congress of the Deputies since 1872. On the bottom of the coin, horizontally and in capital letters, the value of the piece 10 EURO. Surrounding the motives and legends one pearl beading.
On the obverse is reproduced the portrait on the left of His Majesty the King Don Felipe VI, wearing the insignia of Captain General. In the upper part, in a circular and uppercase, the legend FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA appears. In the lower part, between two points, the year of minting 2018. Surrounds the motifs and legends a gráfila of pearls.
