Câteva monede românești într-o licitație Heritage Auction XXVIII b - 15.01.2025

 1. Carol I Leu 1870-C MS62 NGC, Bucharest mint

Carol I Leu 1870-C MS62 NGC, Bucharest mint, KM6, Schäffer/Stambuliu-5. Coin Rotation. A beautiful silver Romanian minor, highly prized but rarely offered in Mint State. The last Mint State example of this charming one-year emission we sold before this selection was back in 2014. Light champagne/russet patination adds originality to this piece and unbroken satin luster provides the luminosity expected of a coin at this technical tier.

3. "Bucharest Baptism" gold Medal 1814-Dated AU Details (Removed From Jewelry)

"Bucharest Baptism" gold Medal 1814-Dated AU Details (Removed From Jewelry) NGC, By Wurschbauer. 44mm. 16.89gm. Reverse: CONSTANDIN SZAU NESZKUT LA 12 FEBRU 1814 ZALATHNA SILAU BOTEZAT COSCZTANDIN CONSZTANDIN DIELA BUKAREST. A type of medal that is much more frequently of German origin, and though the obverse design has German writing, the reverse writing clearly indicates Romanian genesis. This example is also of a larger size than is typical. A quite special piece that should be of significant interest to Romanian collectors.

4. Carol I tin Proof Pattern 10 Bani 1905 PR64 NGC, Brussels mint

Carol I tin Proof Pattern 10 Bani 1905 PR64 NGC, Brussels mint, KM-Pn80, Schäffer/Stambuliu-050-1.14. A popular Romanian Pattern issue notably featuring the center hole still intact. The tin metal is toned to a steel coloration but underlying brilliance is still evident, easily deserving of its near-Gem evaluation by NGC.

6. Carol I brass Proof Piefort Pattern 20 Bani 1905 PR63 NGC, Brussels mint

Carol I brass Proof Piefort Pattern 20 Bani 1905 PR63 NGC, Brussels mint, (cf.) KM-Pn96, Schäffer/Stambuliu-055-1.4. A splendid brass variation of this Romanian Pattern issue without the center hole cut out, even boasting Piefort thickness to boot. The brass surfaces are lightly patinated but still gleaming with mint brilliance, with the Choice grade designation perhaps being slightly conservative.

7. Carol I silver Matte Proof Pattern 12-1/2 Lei 1906 PR66 NGC, Brussels mint

Carol I silver Matte Proof Pattern 12-1/2 Lei 1906 PR66 NGC, Brussels mint, KM-Pn120, Schäffer/Stambuliu-060-1.3 (var). A stunning silver striking of this unusual one-year denomination, not listed as a Matte version in Schäffer/Stambuliu, but clearly struck as such on this specimen. Preserved through the years with astounding care and pride, practically no contact marks have abraded the surfaces, just gentle areas of darker gray patina. A more prized emission from the vast array of Romanian pattern examples, likely one of the finest extant examples of the type, certified or not.

8. Carol I tin Proof Pattern 25 Lei 1906 PR63 NGC, Brussels mint

Carol I tin Proof Pattern 25 Lei 1906 PR63 NGC, Brussels mint, KM-Pn129, Schäffer/Stambulu-062-1.13. A superb off-metal Pattern of this desirable one-year commemorative type, regularly issued in gold. The gentle surfaces have been well-preserved as there is practically no evidence of tin pest, a fate that has plagued many numismatic emissions of this metal. Accompanied by the original lot ticket from the Montreal Collection NASCA sale in 1979.
